It appears that students at Clemson University in Columbia, South Carolina, are changing their eating habits. Following the Atkins' low carb diet craze that has gripped many American cities, Clemson students are eating more protein in their dining halls than ever before. They are eating so much protein, in fact, that the administrators of the University's food service say they have to raise prices.
"For the last couple of years, the college kids have become more aware, I guess since Mr. Atkins came out with his diet," said Rex Graves, coordinator of food and vending services at Clemson. "The kids seem to go for more protein."
This realization, along with increasing insurance rates, lead the University to increase the cost of their meal plan. A single meal at a Clemson dining hall is now $6.19, an increase of 30 cents.
