The U.S. Secretary of Education, Ron Paige, recently announced the “Take the Lead in Preparing America’s Future” partnership, which is a campaign to further enlist the support of local business communities in America’s schools.
In his announcement, Paige proclaimed, “No [educational] reforms can succeed without the involvement of the local community. That’s why I’m pleased to announce our partnership with Kiwanis International to connect their members with educators and students.”
Part of this partnership calls for members of local Kiwanis organizations to play a more active roll in tutor and mentorship programs between school and community, and to use their career experiences to help teachers and students whenever possible. Kiwanis International originated in 1915, is comprised of local community leaders across the country, and plays an active civic role in many of America’s cities and towns.
This partnership is part of an ongoing DOE campaign to “Prepare America’s future,” and these efforts have also included the support of the landmark “No Child Left Behind” Act.
