Survey Shows Negative Impression on Job Availability

Although the job market rose last month according to economic indicators, a recent consumer confidence survey showed that the average person in America thinks that its currently pretty tough to find a job.

Earlier in September, 5,000 people were asked whether they thought jobs were easier or harder to find than last month. 28.3 percent responded that they though jobs were harder to come by this month, and only 16.8 percent thought the job market was growing.

Economic experts who judge the economy based on economic indicators such as new payroll reports and unemployment rates value surveys that ask for people's impressions on the overall economy, specifically because they are not scientific.

Consumer confidence plays a large role in spending patterns, which is a major factor in the leading economic health indicator?Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Although the average person may think the economy is bleaker than it actually is, the knowledge that gloominess persists is an important economic health indicator in and of itself.

There are many factors that could lead people to believe jobs are scarce. People look at what is happening at their firms. They will take a conservative view on job growth if they see a hiring slow down, or few raises given out. People who work in firms that buy oil will see profit margins shrinking due to high oil prices. People even come up with conclusions about the economy based on the job status of their friends and family.
