Business process outsourcing (BPO) is a rapidly growing industry. Companies in this field are generally hired by other companies to perform specific business functions, like operating call centers, customer help desks, etc.
In the past, BPO jobs were not considered to be good career moves. They were not seen as jobs that had any upward mobility, but just ones that paid a decent wage for hourly labor.
This vision of the BPO firm is changing because the industry is growing so quickly. Young kids directly out of college who started working the phone in a BPO call center are now being promoted to upper level management. Many are responsible for hundreds of workers, and entire offices. These management opportunities often come to those who are in the right place at the right time. When companies grow, internal employees are often promoted.
